Martingale collars help prevent a dog from slipping out of its collar. With tension on the leash, the martingale will reduce the size of the collar by a limited amount, preventing the collar from pulling off over the head (when the collar is properly adjusted). When the leash is slack, the collar relaxes to a looser fit, determined by the adjusted size of the collar. This Lupine Martingale collar has a second D-ring sewn into the collar. It does not change the size of the collar and can be used with the leash or ID tags.To determine collar size, measure snugly around the middle of the neck, then add an extra 5-percent for a comfortable fit. Because this collar is slipped over the dog's head without a buckle, also measure around the head's widest point, from under the jaw, over the top of the skull and back down to the start point. Be sure that the collar is large enough to go on over the head. 1-inch wide Martingale collars are available in two adjustable size ranges: 15-22 inches or 19-27 inches. 3/4-inch wide Martingales are also available and have smaller size ranges.
